What happens to my files if I stop paying?

Your files stay on your devices, fully readable, yours. Nothing gets locked, deleted, or held hostage. This is the most important promise a vault can make, so here it is in detail.

How the free and paid split works

OutVault is free, and the free app is not a trial: it’s a complete, end-to-end encrypted vault on each device you install it on, with sync and Drop between your devices included. Paid plans come later, and they’re optional (pricing).

If you cancel a paid plan:

  • Every file already on your devices stays there, in the vault, exactly as before. The app keeps working.
  • You can export everything, any time — before cancelling, after cancelling, whenever. There is no lock-in window and no export fee.

Why we built it this way

A vault you have to keep paying to open isn’t a vault — it’s a landlord. Because OutVault is offline-first, your data’s home is your own device, and no plan ever stands between you and it. Whatever you decide about a plan, you keep every file.
